POCKETS CHANGE: Paychecks & Taxes

This is an excerpt from the complete Pockets Change Financial Literacy Curriculum, which teaches students personal finance skills, entrepreneurship, stock market, and real estate basics. All lessons are also tied to common core and national standards. They are differentiated and use experiential learning techniques and help students hone 21st century learning skills.

This lesson takes students through a kinesthetic activity where they learn about they different taxes they are required to pay. Then, they will be asked to complete an actual paycheck, where they will use their percentage and decimal skills to calculate the amount of payroll deductions they will be taking from their gross pay.

Along with the activity, the lesson includes the common core standards met, assessment, key terms, and follow up questions (called "Small Change Questions") to ask your students after the activities are done. The download also includes all necessary black line masters/worksheets to complete the activity.
