Spending Values

“Where you spend your money is a representation of what you value.

You ALWAYS put your money where your mouth is.”

Many of us feel like budgeting doesn’t work because we try to fit an abstract formula or rule for how much to spend on things.

When we start by looking at our personal values we can create a spending plan that works for our life and our future goals.

How to Budget Using Your Spending Values

  1. Start with The Basics - Write down all of The Basics and add them up. These are your bills.

  2. Calculate - How much do you have left over after The Basics are paid?

  3. Savings - How much do you want to put towards The YES?

  4. Decide on your Details- Put money towards the things that you value

  5. Track your spending- Track one thing at a time (food, clothes, going out, etc.)

Aligning our spending habits with what we value most is an act of self-care and social justice.
